God Never Changes
The God of our Bible has always been the same in every way. He is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever. This makes Him unique in all creation. Everything else changes, from the smallest particle to the vastness of the universe.
Everyone and everything in our lives changes constantly. Relationships, health, landscapes, politics and most certainly culture. With all this change, we desperately need a solid anchor in our lives. So it is very reassuring to have an Almighty God who will never change. Whatever His attributes were before He created the universe, they are still the same now. This unchanging nature of God is declared in the following scriptures.
Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Heb 6:17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.
Psa 33:11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.
Num_23:19 God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfil?
Jas_1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
His power will never diminish, nor with His glory fade. His existence never changes. He will not change for the better because He is perfect just as He is. He is not, and will never be influenced by any external element. Just think what that means for those created in His image.
What It Means
He has always been loving, therefore he will always love us. What about His other Godly attributes. Joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness and self-control.
It is essential for us that God does not change. We wouldn’t know what is right or wrong if he did. If God wants us to obey Him, then we must have stable laws and ways of living. Laws that are not subject to changes whenever God sees fit to change. If He is apt to change, we can never keep His laws.
Some have commented that God’s ways are not our ways. Yes, this is correct. But then they may also say that it is God’s prerogative to change how He deals with people. That may also be correct. He can. But according to the above scriptures, He does not. It would be impossible to know God if He keeps changing His mind about certain things. Therefore, let us be thankful that our God is unchanging
